Verdantas, a leading consulting firm providing digitally enabled technical consulting solutions for the environment, water, and energy transition markets backed by Sterling Investment Partners, completed five strategic acquisitions that significantly enhance the company’s technical capabilities and geographic footprint. These acquisitions— Horizons Engineering, Inc., Aqua Engineering Inc., Advanced Earth Sciences, Inc. (AES), Atlantic Resource Consultants, LLC (ARC), and Atlantic Environmental Consulting Services, LLC—strengthen Verdantas’ ability to deliver forward-thinking solutions that enable a sustainable future across key markets.
Key benefits of the acquisitions
- Enhanced Water Expertise: Bringing energy-efficient irrigation design, and water conservation capabilities to teams nationwide, serving universities and large-scale property developments.
- Expanded Environmental Engineering: Additional specialized civil, geotechnical, groundwater, environmental, and solid waste engineering expertise, along with construction management services in the Southern California market.
- Strengthened Northeast Presence: Increasing bench strength for civil, survey, environmental, and water services throughout the Northeast, with new offices in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.
- Technical Service Integration: Providing significant operational synergies by in-sourcing subcontracted services.
- Expanded Remediation Expertise: Enhanced environmental services including water resources, state and federal permitting, and additional licensed site remediation professionals (LSRP) in New Jersey.
“The addition of these teams strengthens Verdantas’ presence in key geographic markets while expanding our expertise in critical service areas,” said Jesse Kropelnicki, CEO of Verdantas. “This growth aligns with our mission of bringing together like-minded firms that share our culture of collaboration and innovation, creating new opportunities for staff. By expanding our team of experts and technical capabilities, we are enhancing our integrated approach to solving challenges in the environmental, water and energy transition sectors.”
The largest of these acquisitions, Horizons Engineering, brings a team of almost 100 experienced professionals with specialized expertise in environmental consulting, water resources, and civil engineering. This acquisition establishes a strong platform in Vermont and Maine while strengthening the company’s existing presence in New Hampshire, filling important geographic gaps in Verdantas’ northern New England footprint.
“What excites us most about these acquisitions is how they enhance our ability to see challenges from a different lens—one that keeps the big picture in mind,” added Ashraf Jahangir, Chief Strategy Officer at Verdantas. “By bringing together diverse expertise across environmental science, engineering, and technology, we’re strengthening our unified approach to developing forward-thinking solutions that help our clients succeed in a changing world.”
Once integrated, the new teams will benefit from Verdantas’ robust systems, processes, collaborative culture, and technology capabilities, allowing them to deliver even greater value to clients through enhanced collaboration and innovation. Key market trends, including recent severe weather events, water supply, waste treatment, and emerging contaminants like PFAS, create tailwinds for the expertise these acquisitions bring to Verdantas.
This strategic growth reinforces Verdantas’ position as a leader in creating solutions that protect the environment, enhance communities, and integrate sustainable development into everyday business—building a more resilient future for generations to come.
