The production of hydrogen is rapidly emerging as a cornerstone of the renewable energy sector. As many of our clients at Verdantas strive to reduce their carbon footprint, hydrogen plays a pivotal role in sustainability solutions.
Why Hydrogen?
- Zero Emissions: Combustion of hydrogen does not emit any polluting gases.
- Ease of Storage: Hydrogen is easy to store, making it available for future use.
- Versatility: Hydrogen can be used for various commercial, industrial, and transportation purposes.
These benefits, coupled with recent funding that is now available through legislation such as the Inflation Reduction Act, is resulting in significant investment in green hydrogen. The IRS recently published guidance whereby the cleanest (“green”) hydrogen receives a $3.00 credit per kilogram if the lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of that hydrogen are less than 0.45 kilograms of CO2e (CO2 equivalent) per kilogram of hydrogen produced.
Leading the Way in Hydrogen Projects
At Verdantas, we are at the forefront of supporting clients in developing hydrogen projects. Our services range from assisting clients in pursuing Department of Energy (DOE) grants for behind-the-meter hydrogen blending projects and supporting compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for projects selected as part of regional hydrogen hub initiatives. We also support local, state, and federal permitting for commercial-scale green hydrogen production.
Recently, our team, led by Alan Plumeau, Chelsea Anderson, and Chris Rutledge, submitted Verdantas’ first Conditional Use Permit application for a proposed commercial-scale green hydrogen project in Southern California. We are also supporting clients with a number of additional projects in early development stages. Furthermore, we are assisting a new client in preparing a DOE grant application for a hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing facility.
Verdantas offers a robust suite of services related to hydrogen, including siting, baseline studies, and permitting support, along with due diligence reviews, engineering and facility design, DOE grant writing support, NEPA compliance, and environmental, health, and safety compliance.
