Innovative Fish Passage & Protection: Verdantas Flow Labs Leading the Way in Sustainable Solutions
Fish Passage
Verdantas Flow Labs is a recognized leader in the field of fish passage design, research and development. Our team of fish passage engineers, hydraulic modelers and fisheries biologists specialize in addressing upstream and downstream fish passage challenges related to dams and hydroelectric projects. As trusted industry experts, we collaborate closely with clients to determine the best site-specific solutions for providing or enhancing fish passage. Our expertise covers a range of innovative technologies, including Nature-like Fishways (NLF) and technical fishways such as fish ladders, fish lifts, diversion and bypass systems and other innovative passage technologies.
Our fish passage professionals are well respected by state and federal resource agencies and have an extensive track record of successful agency consultations, resulting in science and fact-based mitigation that minimizes impacts to project operations and economics. Even when faced with complex projects, our team consistently identifies solutions that gain support from stakeholders and resource agencies.
Fish Protection at Water Withdrawals
Verdantas Flow Labs has extensive experience in researching, developing, evaluating and designing fish screening technologies for installation at various water withdrawals. Our staff have actively contributed to the development of cutting-edge fish protection technologies that are widely used across North America. These technologies include modified traveling screens with coarse and fine mesh (such as Ristroph-type collection screens with fish lifting buckets), fixed and traveling fish diversion screens, wedgewire screens, and rotary drum screens. Additionally, we have conducted extensive research on the effectiveness of behavioral barriers to prevent fish impingement. These barriers include strobe lights, electric barriers, sound deterrent systems, infrasound, air bubble curtains, hanging chains and water jet barriers.
