We provided land surveying and other services to sites for the new Berlin Middle School and Shale Meadows Elementary, working with key stakeholders to meet the client’s aggressive schedule.
When Shale Meadows Elementary School opened, it became the school district’s 16th elementary school. We provided surveying, engineering, utilities, and stormwater management services for this 82,000 sq ft building located on a 14-acre parcel of land.
The Berlin Middle School (pictured above), the 153,000 sq ft new building was constructed on a 45-acre parcel adjacent to the existing high school. We provided the site design for the new middle school consisting of onsite grading, stormwater management, waterlines, sanitary sewers, and sediment and erosion control features.
For both schools, expedited design, agency approvals, and construction of the off-site utilities were crucial in allowing the new buildings to open on time for the start of the school year. With Berlin Middle School, creative design solutions were key to addressing various challenges presented by existing site constraints, particularly earthwork balancing and on-site/off-site stormwater management. The middle school also faced significant supply chain issues during the pandemic, expertly handled by Robertson, the Construction Manager at Risk. The $46M Berlin Middle school opened in August 2023 and the $23.6M Shale Meadows Elementary in the fall of 2021.
