The Verdantas Team (as PBI) has been assisting California American Water (Cal Am) with the planning, design, and equipping of existing and new potable water wells for almost 20 years.
Our team recently completed three new well site projects for Cal Am: Cottage Way Well, Fruitridge Vista Well 14, and the Dunnigan Well, all within the greater Sacramento area. We are currently working with Cal Am on six new well projects: West La Loma 2 Well in Rancho Cordova, Contempo Drive Well in Sacramento, White Rock Road Well in Rancho Cordova, Hurley Way Well in Sacramento, Bell Street Well in Sacramento, and Larkfield Well in Sonoma County.
Cal Am’s new wells are planned and developed in two phases from initial planning and design through construction of the well. Verdantas is involved in all aspects of these new well projects from well siting, planning, design, permitting, bidding, and construction support services. The Bell Street Well and Larkfield Well are in the early stages of planning and design. The White Rock Road Well and the Contempo Well projects are in design and permitting for both Phase I and II. The West La Loma Well 2 project is in construction for Phase II. The Hurley Way Well project is about to begin construction for Phase I and Phase II is currently in design. Phase I addresses the below ground improvements which are necessary in advance of the well being drilled.
The Phase I scopes include topographic survey, site plan, plan and profile design drawings for the water, storm drain, and sewer service connections to the existing utility systems, and permitting with the local planning and building agency for right-of-way and site improvements. Phase II addresses the above ground civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical, controls, and instrumentation improvements for a fully function well site. Facilities for these various well sites include: a new potable water well; above and below ground piping, valves, and appurtenances; a hydropneumatic tank; chemical metering, analyzers, and storage equipment/building; electrical, control, instrumentation, site lighting, and security equipment (i.e. badge readers, intrusion alarms, security cameras); emergency generators and electric service connections; perimeter fencing or walls; site pavement with driveways to the right-of-way, and landscaping and irrigation.
Treatment systems for groundwater contaminants are also included within the design when necessary. Phase II permitting efforts include obtaining encroachment and building permits for the facilities. Verdantas supports Cal Am throughout the bidding period and provides engineering services during construction. These services include: reviewing submittals and Requests for Information, preparing design revisions, reviewing change order requests and payment applications, leading construction progress meetings with Cal Am and contractor, and preparing the record drawings. Verdantas provides oversight for subconsultant inspections, including general inspections, special inspections and materials testing.
